WORD OF MOUTH -
STORYTELLING IN MANCHESTER

Originally called Stories at the Eighth Day Café and established in 1995, and now based at the historic Briton’s Protection pub in the centre of Manchester, Word of Mouth has been holding monthly storytelling sessions at the present venue for the last eight years. In an informal candlelit setting, listeners enjoy hearing tales from some of the best storytellers from home as well as visitors from abroad. The programme of special guests is interspersed with evenings featuring the host storytellers Honor Giles and Helen Stewart (aka Word of Mouth), and time is usually allocated for members of the audience to tell a tale if they wish.

Average attendance is 40 + and the age of the audiences ranges between 18 and 80, usually including a significant number of students. With good transport systems making the venue easily accessible, some of the regular audience members travel 20 or 30 miles to attend.
