THE YOUNG STORYTELLER OF THE YEAR
The Young Storyteller of the Year usually coincides with one of the English Storytelling Network’s tours. The event has had visits from young storytellers from Palestine and Germany and we hope to maintain this international dimension.
There two categories: under 25 years and 14 to 18 years for the best telling of a traditional story under ten minutes long. There are awards in both categories but it is the winner of the over 18 category that takes the title of Young Storyteller of the Year. Such is the success of the award that almost without exception, active storytellers under 30 in England have come through the Young Storyteller of the Year.
In 2008 the Young Storyteller of the Year was Tom Bland and the judges awarded joint firsts in the younger age group to Lois Abena Duncan and Hajar Akhssassi. To our delight, Hajar got her story by phoning her grandmother in Morocco.
Young Storyteller of the Year 2009 will take place at Birmingham Library Theatre on 7 March.
