'Telling Tales' -
Storytelling for Adults.
The Hastings Arms, Gillingham, Kent
This storytelling club has been running for eight years meeting once a month when they present a range of guest storytellers. They have met in various venues but have now found a home back room in a pub adjacent to the Medway River estuary. The landlord is really keen and helpful - pinning the drapes, arranging the chairs and erecting the small lighting rig. They receive some grant funding from Medway council and South East Arts. They could not run without grant support. Their guests over the last few years have included: June Peters, Jamie Crawford, Bernard Kelly, Giles Abbot, Michael Dacre, Pomme Clayton, Helen East, Ben Haggerty, Hugh Lupton, Duncan Williamson, TUUP, Jasna Held (Croatia), Robin Williamson, Chirine (Egypt), Young Storytellers of the Year 2007-Rachael Reid and Jo Blake, Clare Murphy & Diarmuid O'Drisceol (Ireland). We like to hear the old favourites but are particularly interested in fresh voices and visitors from abroad.
TONY EDWARDS - STORYTELLER
www.talesoflife.co.uk
Tony has been storytelling professionally for ten years. He works with two musicians and they present stories from around the world sandwiched with traditional music. You can hear some of it on his website. They find musical opportunities in every turn of the story. Their work is mostly primary schools although we do some adult sessions and work in High schools.
