GEORGE STREET BOOKS
14-16 George Street, Glossop, Derbyshire

The shop has been selling a vast range of second hand, antiquarian and rare books for over 21 years. Since current owners Emma and David Jones took over in 2006 it also now stocks CDs, stationery, cards and gifts, undertakes book searches for rare and out-of-print titles and posts books to customers worldwide.

Emma and David first came up with the idea of holding storytelling events in Glossop as a unique way of publicising their shop locally while encouraging interest in stories, reading and the spoken and written word. Since then, working with the Traditional Arts Team (and with the support of the local storytelling circle), they have presented eight different events – ranging from a children’s event to the horror and humour of “Tales from the Saragossa Manuscripts” and the beautiful Celtic stories and melodies of Robin Williamson.

Starting with an audience of less than 10, these events are now regularly attended by over 40 people from throughout the High Peak and it is hoped that they will continue to grow and develop in coming years.

George Street Books’ website can be accessed at www.georgestreetbooks.co.uk. They can be telephoned on 00 44 (0)1457 868390 and emailed on help@georgestreetbooks.co.uk. They welcome book requests and “wants” lists as well as suggestions for future storytelling events.
